Episode: Im Namen der Völker: in Sachen Mord!

Als Leiter einer Kommission von über 30 Kriminalisten und Experten ermittelte der Berliner Leitende Oberstaatsanwalt Detlev Mehlis im Auftrag der Europäischen Union auf den Philippinen. Es ging um die Aufklärung und Eindämmung von Mordfällen. Zuvor war er im Auftrag des Sicherheitsrates der Vereinten Nationen Chefermittler in Sachen des Attentats auf den Ministerpräsidenten Rafiq al-Hariri im Libanon. Detlev Mehlis führte diese Untersuchung im Namen der Völkergemeinschaft als Undersecretary des UNO-Generalsekretärs durch. Ministerpräsident Hariri wurde in seinem gepanzerten Fahrzeug durch ein Selbstmordattentat, das offenbar von hoher Stelle angestiftet war, mit einer ungewöhnlich großen Sprengladung, die 200 weitere Opfer forderte, umgebracht. Die Untersuchung, die von den unter Verdacht stehenden Kreisen ihrerseits mit Anschlägen bedroht wurde, wurde international stark beachtet. Die Aufklärung von Verbrechen “im Namen der Völker” und in ausgeprägten Mordfällen ist neu. Begegnung mit Detlev Mehlis.
