Episode: Der älteste Mythos der Menschheit

Die Zeit um 2012 vor Christus und unsere Zeit um 2012 nach Christus sind um 4024 Jahre voneinander entfernt. Der Vergleich solcher Zeiten wirkt wie ein ferner Spiegel. Für jene frühe Zeit der Menschheit in Mesopotamien ist die Geschichte des Halbgottes Gilgamesch von besonderer Bedeutung. Das Epos beschreibt die Taten des Gilgamesch, seinen Kampf und die Freundschaft mit seinem Gefährten Enkidu. Höhepunkt ist der Tod dieses Gefährten und die vergebliche Suche des Gilgamesch nach dem ewigen Leben. Die Geschichte von Gilgamesch, ursprünglich sumerisch, aber auch in allen späteren Versionen, in Keilschrift festgehalten, gehört zu den ältesten Mythen der Menschheit.
